Don't you miss being here? |
Last evening, we had guests at home. A couple with their small kid, hardly 1 year old. Seeing that toddler was a joy and so relaxing. You completely forget about all your worries. When he smiles, laughs, jumps with excitement, looks at some new person with those curious eyes, tries to grab something out of his reach and what not! Innocent, harmless and happy in his own world!
Dad took me out for a ride on our scooter before this shot! ;-) |
After they left, I rushed to my room and pulled out one of my childhood photo album. I don't know why I did so but it strangely felt very good. It didn't take long before Mom and Dad joined me. Little did we bother about dinner as we were lost in the memory lane. Every photo had a small story behind it and they narrated it to me with such an enthusiasm that I was moved. The sparkle in their eyes was just beyond this world.
I was compelled to share a few stories of mine with you guys!
I guess every kid had done this in his childhood. Locking their mother away in the bathroom when no one else were there at home. I was a little too heroic, I locked away my aunty in the bathroom at her place, and outside I and her daughter [We both were a year old at that time] were flooding the room with tears and pee! ;-)
The first day at school is always a difficult test for parents if not kids. I didn't cry when I went to school for the first time [As my Mom says] but I almost flooded the class on the 3rd day when another hefty girl in my class snatched away my tiffin box and ate away all the apple pieces in it! [I still hate her for that] x-(
I have always hated street dogs and the animosity began when I was 6 years old. I was playing in the garden with my Dad when this pitch black dog arrives from nowhere and starts barking on me. Dad tried whisking him away but he didn't move.
I decided to act as the hero and ran after him while he was adamant on his place. I hit him very hard with my bat and thereafter he ran away for his dear life with a tremendous speed. I was so happy that I swirled my bat in victory and it hit my head so bad that I fell unconscious on spot! x-D
As a kid everyone of us had broken windows of our neighbours while playing cricket. But my group was a step ahead. We smashed the ventilation glasses of the clubhouse while playing football and thereafter the entire arena was vacant. No one wanted to face the wrath of the gym instructor! ;-)
Remember Big Babool or Boomer! He he!
Chewing gum and sticking it to a friend's pants was a routine activity and so was being punched after that!
Who didn't like to play on the see-saw. I did too until one day a boy ditched me and moved away from the plank when I was on top of the other side. My ass still hurts when I think of that incident.
Every kid loves being taken out for rides on bikes or scooter but I was infamous in my colony for making the bikes or scooters fall of their stands.
I still deeply associate my self with Shaktimaan and Dragon Ball Z. I never missed an episode and still watch Shaktimaan sometimes on YouTube!
Running after butterflies to catch them was another of my favorite activities but till date I have never caught one. Also hurling stones at bee hives was a favorite adventure sport for my group. But that changed too when I suffered from multiple stings on my first day in 8th Grade when a few kids did the same to a bee hive very close to me.
When I learnt riding bicycles I felt on the top of the world. I vividly remember when I excitedly showed my new bicycle to my then crush and would dream of taking her on a double sit trip! :-D
And the best one that remains etched in my memory was when I used to watch Disney Hour in the evening! I used to send them drawings almost every week and one day [it was 23rd Sept, 2001, when the deadly Anthrax epidemic was on rise] I received a gift from them! It was a pack of Colorstix! I still have it with me!
My Prized Possession! |
Growing up to an adult really sucks! I mean, you can't really ask your mother to take you into her lap when you are really feeling low! If any such thing would happen when I was a kid I would simply jump into her lap and she would shower me with loads of kisses!
Ah! I'm getting emotional! [Mom's smiling as she's reading this stanza]
Cheers!
