This Tuesday I got an interview call for which I had to go to Nagpur. I called Dad and told him about it and he agreed at once. Before I knew I and Sai were on our way to Nagpur.
The next morning I & Sai were in Nagpur. We soon reached the plant in Mihan hoping that we would not be rejected for being late. I was nervous and my hands were shaking as I shuffled my bag to get my folder and other things. But before entering the plant I decided to called Dad once more.
" Don't be nervous beta. Try not to repeat the mistakes which you made earlier. If you don't know the answer don't fake it and keep yourself cool no mater what", he said sounding so calm while pointing out the essentials.
I tried to calm my nerves as I entered the plant keeping all my belongings at the security post. There were total 7 of us for the post of GET. The interviews started at 2.30 pm and soon the familiar uneasiness in my stomach began. One after the other the candidates were called for the interview. Me being the last one as usual, I got to hear everyone's experience and getting more and more nervous.
Finally my turn came.As I waslked towards the room I kept telling myself ," Beta! Garam mat hona andar!" [Don't lose your cool once you're inside]. I breathed deep and entered the room to be greeted by two senior officers. Soon the questioning began. I was asked about my favorite subjects. I mentioned GD & T and Automobile. Numerous questions were thrown at me as if it was a rapid-fire round but I was still enjoying it as I was able to answer most of them without getting distracted. I kept recalling the points Dad told me earlier.
Towards the end of the interview I could not answer a few questions and was apologizing. Then one of the interviewers said, " Its okay! Its not necessary to answer all the questions. You're doing great!" I had never been complimented at an interview ever before and his words inspired me to a great extent. It was just like the cadbury shots ad ,"Beta! Mann me laddu foota! "
Soon after the results were announced. I and Nikhil [ he was one of my batch-mates in college :-) ] were asked to wait for the final round of the HR interview. After nearly an hour and a half of impatient wait I was called for the interview.
The HR manager was very polite and he apologized for making us wait so long thereby helping me to calm down. The interview went smoothly. Apart from general questions like introductions, strength and future plans he explained me about the points on which I needed to improve upon. Oh yes, did I mention I had to demonstrate my break dance skills too there.
They said that they would give us a call within a few days. We came out of the plant with wide grins on our face and hopes in our mind to receive the call soon and finally get employed soon.
I called Dad and narrated him the entire day's happenings and what he said moved me.
" I somehow knew this was coming. Congratulations Beta! Now you better start searching for a room in Nagpur! "
I asked him how could he be so sure to which he said. " Not me! But you're sure! "
I learnt something priceless that day. Just being educated is not good enough, you can crack things up only if you have the right mindset and Dad proved that to me very well.I don't know if I would really get a call or when. But if I do get a call somehow I think Dad will be the one who gets all the credit.
